ABSTRACT
Ritual flux reflects the synthetic nature of ideas, technology, and the reciprocal relationships between the body and the built environment. The anatomy of any domestic terrain requires an ingrained flexibility to sustain the broad spectrum of generic processes shared by all humans, while maintaining certain cultural or regional specificity. The ritual is a marker to identify processes which fluctuate between states of consciousness and those of pure habit. Surface and pattern are simultaneously informer and reactor, with the abilities to create localized responses to specific stimuli pertaining to material, environment, and culture. These dilations, inflammations, and inversions create implicit programmatic divisions and segregations while at the same time allowing certain unforeseen invasions and slippages that embrace a sense of programmatic ambiguity. Architecture in this world is ultimately paradoxical: it requires planning, strategy, and measure, but it thrives on emergence, local tactics, and chance.
