ABSTRACT

The quality of food provided for children in schools has recently received a great deal of attention due, in part, to the high profile campaign of celebrity chef Jamie Oliver. After a period, which saw little intervention in relation to the food served in English schools, the School Food Trust was established in 2005 with the remit of improving the quality of food in schools and promoting the education and health of children and young people. In the same year, the government announced new standards for school food, which were phased into all local-authority maintained schools in England in 2009.
