Spatial memory and identity in the work of Istanbul/Vienna artist Canan Dagdelen 1

In an increasingly globalized world, identity is an issue that is becoming more central to our lives. For a Muslim in Europe this is particularly important. ² It is a theme running throughout all the art of Canan Dagdelen (1960), born in Istanbul, now living in Vienna where she teaches ceramics at the University of Applied Art. Spatial Memory/Uzamsal Bellek is the title of her most recent exhibition at the American Hospital in Istanbul 2012.
