ABSTRACT
Architecture at its best is an expression and reflection of the human psyche, in which cultural identity plays an important role. In order to understand better the role that architecture plays in changing concepts of cultural identity, it is helpful to understand better the role that cultural identity plays in the human psyche. In the increasingly globalized twenty-first century, it is important for vernacular identities to be represented in architecture. At the same time, globalized technology unites everyone in the world in a singular identity. All cultures are also united by universal structures of human language and behavior, and it is important that this be represented in architecture also. This paper presents a model of analysis for architecture based in psychoanalysis, which proposes to equally represent individual and universal identities.
