ABSTRACT

A world city is termed as such for its particular economic role. According to Friedmann (1986), world cities represent key nodes in articulating the global economy. This articulation function has been elaborated by Sassen (2001, p. 5) who argued that it is producers and financial services which define the economies of these cities. Along with Sassen, Beaverstock and his associates have provided a number of case examples drawing from finance, law, and accountancy (Beaverstock and Smith, 1996; Beaverstock, 1996; Beaverstock and Broadwell, 2000).
