ABSTRACT
Scandinavia is the oldest geographical concept for the northernmost part of Western Europe and is, as such, somewhat imprecise in scope. In its maximum extent Scandinavia comprises all the four Nordic countries — Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. Often, however, the designation is confined to the Scandinavian peninsula, covering Norway and Sweden.
