ABSTRACT
This chapter deals with environmental policies and problems in Canada. It has four main aims:
to place present day environmental policies into their historical contexts, by examining changing attitudes to the environment, staple theory and the British North America Act,
to explore the role of international relations,
to describe the Canadian approach to Environmental Impact Assessment, and
to draw attention to some of those aspects of environmental policy which are distinctively Canadian.
