ABSTRACT

This final chapter draws together strands of discussion running through the book to reflect on emerging dimensions of the new field of academic research, policy and practice in gender violence, poverty and education. In grappling with the original aims posed in Chapter 1, the authors have brought rich insights as well as raising some difficult questions for those wanting to tackle this area of scholarship, those engaging at community, school, family or individual level in preventing gender violence, and those who want major changes in policy approaches whether national or international. In this chapter I discuss how the authors answer the questions posed in the introduction concerning theoretical insights into the nature of violence, demonstrations of how young people living in poverty contexts engage with and resist violence, and mediators and mechanisms to counter violence.
