ABSTRACT
The goal of educational assessment is to produce test scores that accurately indicate what students know and can do in a particular content domain. This goal is pursued through the administration of a test whose items adequately represent that content domain and whose items are sufficient in number to yield reliable scores. The scores from such a test are then used to either (a) make inferences about individual students or (b) make inferences based on the test scores of groups of students.
