ABSTRACT

This chapter investigates how to make students more 'ready' for the competitive process to secure a work placement in this current climate. The curriculum vitae (CV) are the entry document to the recruitment and selection process for work placement. The context for investigation into using the CV as an integrative learning tool takes place in a second-year BSc Finance five-credit pre-placement course. The research was undertaken in the spirit of action research using an intrinsic case study approach to explore and describe the event 'CV Writing' in as much richness as was possible. Integrative learning is particularly relevant in today's world of the twenty-first-century learner. The aim of the changes in the CV writing unit of the course was to develop students' capacities for intentional learning. A self-assessment questionnaire was introduced to catalogue the individual student's strengths, with pair and team work allowing students to further examine, defend and evaluate their strengths.
