ABSTRACT

This chapter discuses awareness or educational programmes on green tourism, the involvement and committment of multi-stakehoders as well as having sufficient funding and facilities are vital to support the practice of green tourism at Kinabalu National Park in Malaysia. However, in the transition to a green economy, Malaysia is facing a series of challenges which include the development of human resources in term of skills, knowledge and competencies and know-how for resource-efficient technologies for a green economy. Likewise, the implementation of green tourism development in Malaysia requires strong cooperation between federal and state authorities and stakeholders-the government, Non-Governmental Organization (NGOs), private and higher learning institutions in terms of implementing appropriate policies, regulations and guidelines to strengthen green tourism development. Accordingly, the capacity-building programme in terms of human resources and local involvement is vital to support the implementation of green tourism in Malaysia.
