ABSTRACT

The world is attempting to circumvent previously exploitive economic policy agendas by trying to mitigate a number of global crises, including resource, fuel, and water scarcity, as well as increasing poverty. Food production draws heavily on natural resources, uses 70 per cent of the available clean water and has been criticized as a leading cause of carbon emissions and pesticide pollution (FAO, 2011). However, agri - culture also employs 40 per cent of the world’s population. Therefore, the agriculture sector is a critical component in efforts to green the economy.
