ABSTRACT

In a recent issue our contemporary, The Journal of Gas Lighting, Water Supply, etc., resumes what it very appropriately describes as its “friendly discussion” with ourselves upon this interesting subject. Our last contribution thereto appeared in these columns so long ago as the 18th ult., and we fear, therefore, that our comments can no longer be very fresh in the minds of our readers. Doubtless, however, they will be easily recalled by a perusal of our contemporary’s article, which we reproduce in another column. For the sake of convenience, rather than upon the score of logical sequence, we propose to deal with the various points raised by our contemporary in the order in which they appear in the article.
