Introduction

This volume contains the proceedings of the VHth Advanced Course of the “Fondation Archives Jean Piaget”, held at the University of Geneva from 22 to 27 September 1985. Although it coincided with the fifth anniversary of Jean Piaget’s death, the course was meant to go beyond any formal homage, or perhaps to represent true homage paid by researchers who demonstrate how some major problems of Piagetian psychology and epistemology can be assessed in the light of current research. Indeed, “Piaget today” as a topic involved going back to Piaget’s own writings and showing in what way a general theory of cognitive development or parts of the theory can define a number of relevant problems in several disciplines.
