ABSTRACT
The genesis for this book was our realisation that most of the research to date on the role of rituals and traditional events in contemporary society has not been carried out from an events studies perspective. We decided that it was important that this book be multi-disciplinary in scope, showcasing the work of a wide variety of researchers from around the globe, and that it set future research directions, to advance the field. Nevertheless, we are conscious that this is only a first step and there are numerous areas that warrant further research. This final chapter draws together some of the key themes developed in this book, sets out a research agenda and considers the future outlook for rituals in an events context.
