ABSTRACT
Plants are organisms made up of many cells that make their own food by photosynthesis. Most plants are mainly green in colour because they contain the green pigment called chlorophyll which is essential for photosynthesis. Plants which do not have green leaves, for example copper beech trees, do possess chlorophyll but other pigments mask its green colour (see page 40).
