ABSTRACT
IN his Report 1 on Education in the Bahamas, 1958, Mr. H. Houghton states that there was no demand for education. A number of Bahamians would not have taken exception to this statement if they had understood what Houghton meant. The critics pointed to the hundreds of students who attended evening classes established by the Department of Education, as evidence for the demand.
