ABSTRACT

The rifts between the US and British delegations were also clearer to see during these debates. Serious problems had already been encountered between the two allies during the Korean talks since they disagreed on what course to pursue to bring the proceedings to a timely end. The special session of the General Assembly thus got underway with the US and British positions poles apart. The US and British positions had been publicly aligned during the talks but privately neither government was entirely happy with the outcome of the special session. The Korean phase of the Geneva Conference got underway at the height of this crisis. The US delegation had achieved its difficult task of holding together its disparate allies in Geneva.
