ABSTRACT

More parents in Europe are fluent in at least one more language in addition to their first language (L1) and are interested in introducing the second language (L2) to their children. J. Enever discusses the benefits specifically in the context of early language learning. Parents tend to be reluctant to introduce an L2 at home, as they are not sure about their proficiency, doubtful about pedagogical skills and lack time. The Parents As Successful teacherS (PASS) project addresses these problems by providing parents who are not necessarily native speakers and do not have a pedagogical education to introduce a language to their children in the family context. The PASS language framework extends the topic approach through three additional aspects: inclusion of situational language, generic language, and support language. The Thinking Task Framework was adapted for parents and presents them with a sequence of steps for building learning activities.
