ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book highlights the availability of detailed data sets, which allows in-depth analysis of crucial research questions/hypotheses. It presents the country perspectives on sources of growth so as to enable an understanding of how the productivity dynamics evolves in different economic systems. The book explores the crucial economic features which explore why India is considered to be a major emerging economy of the world. It shows that the new framework for productivity measurement reveals that replication of established technologies explains by far the largest proportion of US economic growth. The book explores the growth path of Latin America and Caribbean countries. It provides estimates of human capital productivity change and the relationship between human capital productivity change and multifactor productivity change.
