ABSTRACT

Children with disabilities tend to be overlooked in discussions of media – yet in relation to digital media they represent a highly significant, innovative, and diverse group. This chapter puts the topic of children with disabilities on the agenda for digital media research. It presents two ideas: 1) children with disabilities warrant urgent research-based attention since it is impossible to gain a comprehensive understanding of children’s digital media use without them; and 2) beyond that, critical understandings of disability offer important theoretical, policy, and practice insights into how researchers may approach digital media and children in general.
