ABSTRACT

The migration-energy nexus represents an emerging field of study both at research and policy levels. The purpose of this chapter is to provide an overview of the policy context in which the migration-energy nexus has emerged. It depicts the evolution of the topic through the lenses of two relevant conceptual frameworks related to migration governance and management: the migration, environment and climate change framework and the migration-development framework. Accordingly, the chapter provides an analysis how migration and energy have been included in relevant major global policy frameworks and the potential opportunities the nexus approach represents for future policymaking. The chapter underlines the need to consider migration in energy-related policies and vice versa energy in migration policies as a way to contribute to effective migration management and governance.
