ABSTRACT

Visual effects in the video game industry largely use the same techniques and tools used in pre-rendered film and television production. Models are created or scanned, textures and shaders are developed, characters and monsters are rigged then animated, and worlds are built, lit and, in the end, rendered into an image. In the film/television industry, the film studio is the originator and financier of projects whereas in the gaming industry Publishers are the sources of green lighting, financing, and distributing projects. The runtime component is executable, as are all its processes that occur when the game is run. It is responsible for taking all the assets and definitions that were designed using the editor and presenting them to the player in real time. The production staff are responsible for schedules, task tracking and approval, build creation, localization, certification, and, sometimes, managing outsource companies.
