ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the learning ecology concept through the metaphor of weaving and introduces a pedagogical practice called Imaginative Ecological Education (IEE) as a way to emotionally and imaginatively engage learners as part of education for ecological understanding. The chapter aims to show how IEE offers a way of teaching any curriculum that pays close attention to the distinctive features of students' emotional and imaginative lives. It brings attention to the wonder-full features of knowledge, the learner's somatic involvement in the world, and the situated or Place-based features of learning. These are all features of an ecological understanding of the world we hope to develop with learners today and into the future.
