ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how fit for purpose they are in the 21st century in relation to some ethical issues. It suggests the definition of a case study in non-profit building on these definitions and on the findings of this chapter: A case study used for non-profit communications can range from a person's story to an in-depth, case history report. In modern Britain, illustrative case studies have driven social change since at least the 18th century. Over time, the channels through which case studies have been communicated have evolved. There are many ways in which case studies can support the communications of non-profit organizations (NPOs). When communications are strategic, these help organizations to secure their objectives. The use of case studies is a long-established part of the arsenal of NFP communications and warrants detailed definition to support examination. Case studies in their varied forms serve different purposes to highlight and advance NPOs' work in a highly competitive environment.
