ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book introduces important topics, including the use of counterstorytelling in higher education, the use of critical race theory as a tool for analyzing critical education history, and an analysis of how Critical Race Theory (CRT’s) “off-shoots” build on the foundations of CRT. It analyzes the Charter School movement in the United States. The book describes the federal level to diminish and even privatize public education in the United States. It focuses on issues more relevant in the current moment. The book also focuses on “social justice” to a discussion of scholar activism in the academy as it is shaped and influenced by CRT. It provides a greater analysis of current research that uses their particular methodological approach to examine issues of race in education.
