ABSTRACT

This chapter reports on the themes, which was found through the process of analysing students’ comments in questionnaires asked to complete prior to commencing the course and then five months following completion of the course. Although students also completed Critical Incident Questionnaires (CIQs) each week, we will not be reviewing the CIQs due to space. The chapter provides the rationale for the study and describe the methodological approach used, providing examples of themes within the data and describing the thoughts about the themes. It intends to be focused on outcomes, we believe one important way to add to a more systematic understanding of how critical reflection works is to document some of the overall patterns of learning, which occur for students. The chapter traces the changes in thinking experienced by students in a 13-week course on critical reflection in an Master of Social Work (MSW) programme in London, Canada.
