ABSTRACT

By exhibiting the various ways that we, as humans in different cultures, use our minds, museums unite us, and by doing so, celebrate our diversity. Traditionally, science museums exhibit the one thread of history that is Western enlightenment. Museums start from the Greeks and Romans and then jump ahead to the Renaissance, leaving the dark ages dark. But in fact, during this time, a whole enlightenment was going on not too far away. Muslims and Islam have been a major contributor to science throughout history around the world. Science museums should exhibit the philosophy and history of how the thinking mind developed in such diversity.
