ABSTRACT

Science museums have played a part in the oppression and objectification of Indigenous peoples. Teachings from Indian Country now call for museums to reimagine how they think about Native peoples, collaboration, and repatriation. It is time to embrace a different value system, one that welcomes other ways of knowing, reconsiders what counts as sources of expert knowledge, and engages with Indigenous individuals as partners who can help reorient the museum community on a new understanding of the purpose of museums.
