ABSTRACT
The Navajo astronomers, David Begay and Nancy Maryboy, describe the challenges and successes of their National Science Foundation project, Cosmic Serpent. The project helped museum staff, scientists, and Native peoples build relationships with one another. In the process, they showed how to build solid knowledge in a Native voice, one with integrity and knowledge of the Native way of thinking, and one that complemented Western knowledge, expectations, and efforts.
