ABSTRACT

Teachers and administrators in adult ESL education can be effective advocates for their learners, their programs, and their profession because they bring direct experience to their advocacy activities. This chapter shows such practitioners how to use an asset-focused framework to present adult education programs and adult ESL learners as integral, strengthening forces in their communities. The chapter demonstrates ways of integrating local demographic and program outcome data with stories of individual learners’ progress and successes to create narratives that resonate with employers, funders, community members, and policy makers.
