ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the instrumental in highlighting the importance of the Farming-Dyslexia-Entrepreneurship nexus and the important role played by the UK’s agricultural colleges and universities in diagnosing dyslexia and providing support to students who experience dyslexia. Traditionally, farmers were regarded as being conservative in nature, anti-entrepreneurial and risk-averse in their practices. Agricultural colleges and universities play a major part in educating farmers and the future employees of such businesses into farming ways and practices. There are currently 24 such institutions spread across the UK. Dyslexia is a real, but often hidden, issue among the farming community which influences the entrepreneurial propensity of farmers and other rural occupations. Equine businesses are heterogeneous, usually situated in a rural environment often resulting from the creation of a stand-alone business or via farm diversification, agri-tourism and leisure and a drive for pluriactivity to improve overall business economic performance.
