ABSTRACT

In this chapter, four co-authors describe a variety of approaches with their clients/patients who represent different age groups and present with different clinical issues. Each author finds a distinctive way to apply the Kestenberg Movement Profile (KMP) in the context of mental-health intervention. The chapter proceeds with two dance/movement therapy contributions (Melanie Johnson and Louise Binette): group work with an adult day treatment population, and individual counseling and dance/movement therapy with a college student. It presents a full KMP assessment and individual dance/movement therapy with a three-year-old child. The chapter demonstrates an example of how a clinician may be able to use the KMP in its entirety for diagnosis, treatment planning, and intervention. It considers authors' own ways of incorporating KMP concepts in clinical applications. The chapter is intended to be springboards to inspire readers to imagine ways of including the KMP to inform the clinician, and to enhance therapeutic embodiment, in making for a most effective practice.
