ABSTRACT
Iceland became an active member of the NNME network in the early years of its operation. As the Icelandic contact person for the past 15 years, the author of this chapter writes about the network involvement from a personal and professional perspective. The chapter includes a brief overview of music education in Iceland in order to offer a clear picture of the status of music education in this smallest of the Nordic nations. Furthermore, the author attempts to make comparisons to music education in the other Nordic countries involved in the network. The NNME network has undergone changes that have profoundly impacted its operation, such as the change to English as the main language of communication. Some of these developments are highlighted and the implications discussed. The chapter attempts to identify the strengths of the NNME network as well as the challenges that it has faced. Finally, there are suggestions made regarding further improvements and future directions for a continuous success in the Nordic music education research community through the operation of such a network.
