ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces the central themes developed in the Handbook. The first section identifies many common features shared by preferential trade agreements (PTAs) around the world. The second part examines the way in which these commonalities occur in individual PTAs and national trade policies. Based on these experiences, it is possible to formulate several lessons and make some generalizations concerning future trade.
