ABSTRACT

The introduction lays out the scope of this collaborative project. It reviews extant literature on the relation between social location and the politics of theorizing, writing, and activism with respect to gender and sexuality. It considers popular and academic debates around gender, masculinity, and sexuality in order to situate the question of men’s involvement in feminist endeavours in contemporary India. The essay then uses each of the chapters in this volume to outline the conditions, the motivations, the triumphs, and failures of becoming male feminists.
