ABSTRACT
The globalisation of urban governance presupposes some kind of standard for (local) governance practice and quality of life for those inhabiting the urban space. SDG 11 serves as a globally recognised, yet non-legally binding reference point to assess how urban governance is globalising and what the concomitant implications and effects are. This chapter reflects on some of the key aspects of the globalisation of urban governance from a law and/or governance perspective as they currently play out in international, transnational and national contexts. In conclusion, the chapter illuminates and responds to some remaining knowledge gaps by providing a number of pointers towards a future research agenda.
