ABSTRACT

The focus of this chapter is on the topic of interdisciplinarity. The ability to reach beyond one’s discipline provides opportunities to develop unique projects that would not be possible with only one disciplinary focus. Undergraduate research programs can promote the development of interdisciplinary projects in formal and informal ways. Dancers can become interdisciplinary scholars by combining dance with another discipline. This is an appropriate strategy for students who are dance minor students, with a different academic major. However, dance majors may also have expertise (more than one major) and be able to make that combination work. Another strategy is to collaborate with a student in another major to develop a project.
