ABSTRACT

The research on women’s movements has been the most fruitful area of the research on women’s history in modern China over the past 60 years. The women’s movement, by its very nature, is human beings’ reform of their way of existence. Some researchers summarized the characteristics of women’s movements in the old democratic revolution period as follows: first, women’s liberation movements in modern China have always been an organic part of the Chinese people’s anti-imperialist and anti-feudal bourgeois democratic revolution. Second, because of the difficult growth and slow development of China’s national capitalism, the necessary historical conditions created for women’s liberation movements were extremely limited. Third, Chinese women’s movements in the period the old democratic revolution were extremely complicated.
