ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author focuses on the educational side of environmental education (EE). The goal of EE is to improve pupils ecological awareness and hence their environmental behaviour, and also to put them in a position to adopt attitudes or hold opinions on social developments. In connection with the objectives of EE, there is often advocacy, to a greater or lesser extent, for individual self-realisation or for the interests of society. Objectives are the specific ideas on which the content of environmental education teaching is based. It is clear that the types of organisation of subject matter obviously cannot be practised for all EE subject matter. Organisation of subject matter at classroom level should be such that the pupils' learning processes with regard to specific subject matter should be able to progress as well as possible.
