ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the connectedness of IndigenousX by bringing together the experiences of Luke as CEO of IndigenousX, and Aboriginal academics and sometime hosts, Sandra Phillips and Sandy O’Sullivan, whose work has engaged with, and been enriched by, IndigenousX. These Indigenous Australians are tasked to “say pretty much whatever they want to say”, with some legal and ethical base-line requirements set to ensure that IX as a brand conforms to the legal requirements and the base expectations of Twitter. The underpinning concept of IndigenousX operates as a dialectic that actively challenges stereotypes across the Indigenous Community, and provides a voice for conflicting opinions. IndigenousX operates across a social media form that has a shaky history in supporting the unchallenged voices of minority groups. The success of IndigenousX is that this process is central to its power within our broad community. Our communities have been dispersed rather than convened.
