ABSTRACT

Quality assurance through assurance of learning takes an ongoing develop¬ment approach that involves the capturing, monitoring, and evaluating of data specific to student achievement of specific course learning outcomes (CLOs). This chapter describes a change effort from the perspective of a Director of Assurance of Learning—a mid-level leader in the faculty of a large transnational university that operates across multiple locations. It deals with a set of recommendations integrating key steps of an organizational change management process with a best practice undertaken within the Master of Business Administration program. The use of assessment rubrics in collecting data on students’ capability, and subsequently analyzing student performance in relation to each CLO has been identified as a key step in the assurance of learning process. In the world of assessment and accreditation, universities may promote assurance of learning through a variety of mechanisms to help establish a sense of urgency and form a powerful guiding coalition.
