ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a methodology for estimating a portion of the economic benefits of the National Park Service (NPS) educational programs. It focuses on web or internet-based educational resources when exploring educational materials and resources developed by NPS. Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) considers itself a ‘partnership park’, working with multiple non-profit and government partners to provide a vast suite of educational services. The proximity to a metropolitan area and the volume of visitors make the GGNRA an ideal case study. Many other organizations operate in partnership with GGNRA including the San Francisco Unified School District, which partners closely with GGNRA and runs a science center in Fort Funston. A major avenue for online education is through webinars and online training. These include instructional courses in historical preservation, landmark protection, preservation of battlefields, and a wide variety of other topics.
