ABSTRACT

Chapter 18 assists the reader in understanding the lived experiences of transwomen athletes of color. After defining key terms of gender identity, the reader understands the impact of oppression on transwomen of color in the sports world. Society does not accept their wins or their losses as a result of dedication and hard work but instead attributes their outcomes of competition to their identities. The chapter further provides guidance to the reader on how to address this paradox by affirming their identities, engaging in empowerment strategies, and advocating for acceptance and inclusion.
