ABSTRACT

Within this chapter, we begin with an overview of the history of and challenges to feminist research, followed with discussion of various methods used by feminist researchers to understand women and their social worlds. We then discuss the history and development of feminist research in Sport and Exercise Psychology and emergent methodologies within the field. It is hoped that readers gain an understanding and appreciation of the meaning and value of feminist research as it applies to social systems like sport. By shining a light on the marginalization and oppression of women in sport, feminist sport psychology researchers and practitioners invite researchers to work with them to dismantle all systems of oppression.
