ABSTRACT

Often times, Black women and women of color find their voices silenced, ignored or diminished. Drawing from sport research, Black feminist theory and critical race theory, this chapter presents the reader with a foundational understanding of how race, class and gender intersect in the everyday lives and sport experiences of Black women and women of color. The chapter concludes with suggestions on how Whites and men should address the disparities in order to begin creating sport spaces of inclusion and understanding for racial minority females, of various classes, including athletes, administrators, coaches, etc. The information presented in this can be applied to all levels of sport including interscholastic, collegiate and professional.
