ABSTRACT
Numerous works consider mobility as a physical phenomenon first and foremost, and have described it in terms of flows, practices and meanings. This focus on physical movement tends to limit their analysis to spatial mobility. The goal of the chapter will be to provide an overview of the relationship between spatial mobility and social mobility. After a discussion of the spatial and social nature of mobility, this chapter will look at mobility as an analyzer of life course and as a social norm.
