ABSTRACT

Communities are challenged to address emerging health issues and as a result, confronted with identifying or creating new programs and services to make meaningful impacts on population health. The utilization of evidence-based strategies includes the identification of high-impact, evidence-based solutions and practices for the type of community health issue being addressed. Evidence-based practices should be used by agencies and coalitions to guide decision-making and assure that appropriate, effective interventions are being implemented. In this chapter, I seek to provide an introduction to some of the widely used, user-friendly, and accessible public-health-focused resources available; discuss and operationalize the identification and use of evidence-based practices from the coalition-perspective-based impact and reach; and discuss whether each intervention will be culturally appropriate for target populations and how to use the lessons learned from other communities, coalitions, and agencies to your advantage.
