ABSTRACT

I went to boarding school in 1957 at the age of 10. I come from a British middle-class background. My family lived in London and neither of my parents had been to boarding school. I was brought up in a loving home, and my parents believed they were giving me the best that the education system could offer for those who could afford it. I had been happy at the day school that I was attending where I had friends and, apart from the rather awful dinners, I had enjoyed school.
