ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book focuses on constructivist pedagogical approaches and assimilation theory. It presents interlinking ideas and information through the use of concept maps. The book argues that the use of key words and connections will deepen and enhance those linkages from the concepts, drawing on the general and specific aspects of a topic, and will therefore promote active learning. It shows how that main idea can be broken down into specific topics. The book explores how ideas and patient care needs, and the interrelationships that exist between them, promote critical thinking in relation to clinical practice. It explores students/readers to use them as a resource whilst working within and outside of clinical practice.
